The 5 Q’s: Lindsay Gagnon shares details about the upcoming Holiday Market | Local News

In this weekly feature, we put five questions before others in the community. Today, we’re talking to Lindsay Gagnon, director of Market Empire.

1. What is the annual Holiday Market hosted by the Joplin Empire Market?

The fifth annual Holiday Market runs every Saturday from 10am. to 2 pm starting November 19 through December 24 at Joplin Empire Market, 931 E. Fourth St. It will be open December 24 for Christmas Eve Tinsel and Tidings market.

The Holiday Market will have fresh produce, holiday tunes, free gift wrapping, and feature artisan vendors with handmade items.

The Downtown Joplin Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of the city’s community, opened the Joplin Empire Market inside a historic brick warehouse in 2018. The four-season market offers produce, meat, coffee, wine and more. events held throughout the year.

We want to create fun and exciting events throughout the winter season to bring customers and keep people in the market. That’s how the event started, and since we’re open year-round, why not hold it on multiple Saturdays, as opposed to one day being market day?

2. What can people expect to find at the Holiday Market, and you say free gift wrapping?

We will have produce vendors where people can still find seasonal vegetables, as well as bread, coffee and meat. We will be free gift wrapping on December 10. I hope that we will have gift wrapping on more than just one Saturday.

Joplin Youth Corps volunteers are now scheduled to wrap free gifts on Dec. 10, so if you buy a gift on Saturday, you can bring it to their desk.

We will have a holiday photo booth to take pictures with family and friends. We hope Santa is scheduled for at least a weekend or two, too. We will post updates on our Facebook page at

The list of the most current market vendors can be found on Fridays where we post the market report, so customers who are curious who will be there on Saturday, they can follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

3. How many vendors have registered for the Holiday Market?

Depending on Saturday, we will have anywhere from 30 to 35 vendors. If anyone is interested, they can still apply, but space is limited.

We accept vendor applications throughout the year, and we have a waiting list where we keep everyone’s information on file. If we have a cancellation or something, I use that waiting list to visit vendors who are interested in selling.

Our vendors are really looking forward to an influx of customers, and additional traffic to the market during what is usually a slower season for them.

4. Are online orders and curbside pickup still available during the Holiday Market?

Yes. It will be available. We have been offering Empire Curbside and online ordering since the pandemic. We still have regular weekly sales on it. As long as people shop online, we will continue to offer it.

Customers can place their orders from 8:00 p.m. Tuesday through 8:00 p.m. Thursday each week, and drive-thru pickup will be available the following Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Empire Market, 931 E. Fourth St.

We are also offering an additional curbside pickup date for Thanksgiving, which will begin at 2 pm on Saturday, November 19, and will run until 8 pm on Monday, November 21. This will give our vendors time to prepare orders and items. Customers can pick this up on November 23, the day before Thanksgiving.

Online orders can be made at

5. Are there any days this year when Joplin’s Empire Market will be closed?

The City of Joplin Alliance will be closed for the holidays from December 25 through the beginning of the year. There will be no market on Saturday, December 31. This is quite different from the past. This year is new. Usually, we open every Saturday throughout the year, but historically, that New Year’s Saturday has been slow.
